Real estate transactions typically happen quickly, leaving little time to deal with issues requiring extended time such as radon remediation. EPA recommends that you test your home before putting it on the market and, if necessary, lower your radon levels. Save the test results and all information you have about steps that were taken to fix any problems.This could be a positive selling point.
In addition, buyers will often feel greater confidence in results of tests that were conducted by radon remediation experts, rather than the homeowner or anyone else involved with the sale.
It is also possible that buyers will ask about specific regions in a home and the radon levels present in particular areas such as unfinished basements.
Many homes today are built in a manner that keeps radon out. While North Carolina has few regulations regarding radon in homes, schools, and buildings, consumers are educating themselves about this very real problem – especially when purchasing or renting homes in high-risk areas such as Buncombe County, Henderson County, and the surrounding areas.

When you are buying or renting a new home, you should ask the owner or builder if it has radon-resistant construction features. EPA recommends building new homes with radon-resistant features in high radon potential regions, especially in Zone 1 areas. Even if it is built radon-resistant, every new home should be tested for radon after occupancy.
